Local Land Preservation
Preservation projects may differ widely.
Land may be protected:
- To permanently prevent loss to development.
- For use by the general public for outdoor recreation or scenic enjoyment.
- As a natural habitat for fish, wildlife, plants or similar ecosystem to support the network of life.
- For open space, including farmland and forest land, preserved for its practical and ecological benefits.
- For a historically important structure or land area.
While
investigating and assisting in successful land conservancy, we have found
that the definition can change depending on the goals of the
landowners and other interested parties. The result may be a
complex multi-faceted solution. The
following examples of preservation in Massachusetts present a broad range of solutions.
